Overview: The climbing at Indian Rock is every bit as good as anything found across the street at Castle Rock. It is, in a sense, more of the same textured sandstone, although an invisible line has been crossed, and you are no longer in the State Park. With recent forest fires in the area, it’s easy to think of fires as merely destructive, forgetting – even for a moment – that fire is a necessary part of the local environment and of life itself. The Ohlone creation myth describes fire as a gift, albeit one that was stolen by a hummingbird from the subterranean badger people.
