Massacre Rocks State Park sits along the mighty Snake River next to I‑86. The park gets its name from a fear among emigrants moving westward that they’d be ambushed between the boulders. Though a skirmish did take place in the area, the event occurred farther east. Remnants of the Oregon and California Trail exist to this day. The land was historically home to the Shoshone Tribe.

Remnants of the Oregon and California Trail exist to this day. The land was historically home to the Shoshone Tribe. The boulders are river‑tumbled basalt unlike any area outside of Idaho, formed by the prehistoric Bonneville Flood around 17,400 years ago. The flood traveled from what is now the Great Salt Lake through Idaho to the Pacific Ocean. It is one of the largest in history. Climbers have been in the area since the 60's but the history is largely unrecorded. Local legends like Dusty Pena, Cory Berkebile, Eric Bernard, Justin Dayley, Peter Joyce and David Roy very likely did many of the early development in the 90's-00's. In 2013, Cory had posted on mountain project "There are 5 house size boulders here" with no listed problems. The area was a mystery for a long time. My buddy Preston and I tried to explore the area winter of 2015 in frigid temperatures. We climbed in mountaineering socks and couldn't get past the Highway Boulders because of the snow. In 2016, Amanda and Brian Eck were visiting the area and documented around 20 problems, which sparked my interest in the area. After talking with Cory, he granted me permission to document the area, explore and enjoy. The next 10 years of my life became fixated on cleaning new lines, recording so this area could be fully known and pushing my limits. I am so grateful to experience this area. I hope you enjoy and respect this place. From Pocatello (35mins) : Travel west via I-86 W. Take the exit for Register Rd. Turn right on Register Rd towards the entrance of the park. Make a right towards the Visitor's Center to the main parking. From Twin Falls (1 hr 15 min): Travel east via I-86 E. Take the exit 28 for Register Rd. Turn right on Register Rd towards the entrance of the park. Make a right towards the Visitor's Center to the main parking.

Cool holds on this one. Kind of weird just pulling over and then jumping onto the pads.
