Moe's Valley is nestled in the sandstone hills just west of St. George, Utah. Moe's has grown increasingly popular as a winter bouldering destination due to its easy access from the town of St. George and a plethora of classic climbs in a wide variety of grades. Many of the boulder problems in Moe's are also shorter, making it a great outdoor area for new outdoor climbers to test their topout skills. Moe's has grown increasingly popular as a winter bouldering destination due to its easy access from the town of St. George and a plethora of classic climbs in a wide variety of grades. On a rainy day, check out Contact Climbing Gym just off the Green Spring exit from I-15. DO NOT CLIMB ON WET ROCK. The rock in Moe's is relatively fragile sandstone, making it extremely delicate after rain. Sandstone typically takes a minimum of 48 hours to dry if water has a chance to seep into the rock. Often more time is required to safely climb on the rock, the drying time depends on the amount of rain and the amount of sun/wind in the following days. If it has been raining within the last 7 days, check the rock carefully and avoid any holds that appear fragile or moist. If the ground is wet then it is very likely that there are wet and weakened holds. Try out the local basalt or granite if you are in doubt or head to Contact Climbing for a great gym session. Only use soft bristled brushes and brush holds lightly to avoid damaging of removing grains of sand. Accessing Moe's requires that you drive through a neighborhood. There are posted signs directing you to the dirt road entrance along Chandler Rd. To reach the main parking, follow the dirt road as it leads down through an open fence/gate. UPDATE: Park within the fenced area other parking at the main area is currently closed. Please keep up to date on parking and access information at https://www.moesvalley.com/. The parking area for Super Mario Land can be accessed by taking a slight right turn before you hit the fenced area that takes you to the main Moe's Valley parking area. Continue along the main dirt road, following the power lines that lead northwest. After about 3/4 mi, you will reach the parking area. NOTICE: There are NEW PARKING RESTRICTIONS in place for Super Mario Land. You can no longer park in the circular pullout adjacent to Shell Rock. Please make sure that you park outside of the posted motor vehicle signage or you will be ticketed! -- Camping at Moe's -- There is NO CAMPING in Moe's Valley. This is an incredibly sensitive topic with local homeowners near Moe's Valley and any camping in Moe's directly threatens future access and closure of Moe's. The Santa Clara Camping Area, https://www.blm.gov/visit/santa-clara-river-reserve , is the closest camping to Moe's and is on BLM land. Snow Canyon State Park, https://stateparks.utah.gov/parks/snow-canyon , has reserved camping and is another popular spot. There are many hotels and AirBnB's available if you prefer not to camp. -- Climbing After Rain -- Moe's is home to amazing, but incredibly fragile sandstone. It is extremely important that climbers adhere to a policy of no climbing after rain or snow. Please protect this climbing area by respecting the general ethics of sandstone climbing after rain.
