Rumbling Bald is managed by Chimney Rock State Park in NC and has a few rules:
1) Climbing and bouldering requires filling out a free permit at the kiosk near the trail entrance
2) Dogs are allowed but must be kept on leash - please pick up their poop and deposit at the trash cans in the parking lot
3) Stay on existing trails.  Building new trails or new landings must be approved by Chimney Rock State Park

Building new trails or new landings must be approved by Chimney Rock State Park 4) Anything past the Washing Machine / Patio Roof Area off the main trail is on Private Property - please do not climb any boulders in the "Hanging Chain" area 5) Don't park outside of designated spaces or you will be towed - if the lot is full then try to catch a ride from Chimney Rock Village 6) The Park closes around sundown every day so plan to be done by then. Hours are: 8AM-6PM Nov-Feb 8AM-8PM Mar-Apr & Nov-Oct 8AM-9PM May-Aug **Additionally the park is closed on Christmas Day** This guidebook contains all of the best problems and newest FA's including climbs you won't find elsewhere. The Bald has its own microclimate which keeps temps ~10 degrees warmer than Asheville. The Bald is climbable any time except for Summer, but prime conditions are from November through March. The field is broken into 3 main areas, the West Side, East Side, and Central. All areas are accessed from the main parking lot using the loop trail. The West Side is the most popular with easy trails, a high concentration of classics, and good landings. The East Side is a bit more rugged but boasts some of the best problems at the Bald. The Central area has the longest approach and is the least climbed so it can be good for those seeking more solitude. ***If you have the print guidebook note that the Hanging Chain Boulders (basically anything past the Washing Machine / Patio Roof on the West Side) are on private property and CLOSED to bouldering*** If you like climbing at the bald please consider supporting the Carolina Climbers Coalition as they built the parking lot, own the West Side Boulders, and are the biggest advocate for keeping the Bald accessible to everyone. https://carolinaclimbers.org/donate ** 74-A and routes through Bat Cave NC are currently closed due to Hurricane Helene. Plan to use routes through Lake Lure to access Rumbling Bald until roads can be restored. ** ***All climbers must fill out a free permit at the kiosk in front of the trail. *** If the parking lot is full, try to find a spot in the village and hitchhike up.
