Sunset Alley, so named for the beautiful views of the Red Mountain as it glows in the fading light, is a limestone paradise, with some of the best rock in the Utah Hills. With routes from 5.8 to .15b, it has the widest variety of quality routes in the Hills. First discovered in the early 90's, due to uncertain property boundaries on old paper maps, it wasn't until more accurate online maps published in the mid '00's that it was determined to be on BLM, very close to the border of the Shivwits Indian reservation land. The cliffs across the wash from the Sunset Lanes Wall, and the rock above the Hop Garden are on Shivwits land, so please be respectful, and don't hike past these boundaries, or develop any climbs there.
Access from either St George, Utah, or Littlefield Arizona on Highway 91. In between mile marker 9 and 10, look for Hellhole Pass Road on the West side of the highway. After you cross the cattlegaurd, you'll be on an improved dirt road, (sometimes rough after a rain). Travel 2.3 miles until you'll see a less improved dirt road on your right. Travel .2 miles on this to the main parking area. Park farther back if your car has low clearance.
