Long before it's status as a bouldering destination, Horse Flats was known for it's Top Rope Wall. The Top Rope Wall Area can be accessed a few ways. The most direct way is to hike up the faint trail on the left side of the wash from Campsite 1. This trail is steep, but after about 15 minutes, the Top Rope Wall becomes visible and the first boulders appear. The easier access is to drive from the campground an additional 1/4 mile North up the road to Rosenita Saddle. Park here, and hike in from the left trail about 1/2 mile to the summit of Mt. Hillyer. If you are bringing lots of gear this way is easier. The first boulder you encounter is the Mt. Hillyer Summit Boulder. The trail across and down to the Top Rope Wall is on the left right before this boulder. The longest way to access is to keep hiking up the Main Trail from the campground, pass the Main and Pie Slice Areas and up to the broad summit. From this direction the Top Rope Wall trail is on your right and downhill after the Mt. Hillary Summit Boulder.
