"John there is more to life than Vedauwoo"" - Kyle O. (he's never climbed here)

Vedauwoo is known for a lot of things, good bouldering should be one of them. The most unique thing about the area is the amount of high quality crack bouldering climbs. The area is home to one of the hardest crack boulder problems in the world (Cry Me a River V13: See Spaghetti Wall area). But it is also home to many great problems for practicing crack technique and fitness, as well as crimping strength, the strength of your ankles, and testing how bold are you really? But it is also home to many great problems for practicing crack technique and fitness, as well as crimping strength, the strength of your ankles, and testing how bold are you really? People have been bouldering at Vedauwoo forever. Hull's Boulder (V0), at Turtle Rock, was done prior to 1966. John Gill has some great problems here. There is a rich history that I can't do justice. Just know that people have been bouldering here for quite some time, well before mega crash pads were a thing. Vedauwoo can be split into two main areas, which are separated by Happy Jack Rd. (210): North of Happy Jack, and Vedauwoo Proper. Vedauwoo proper does have the vast majority of the problems, but a more secluded experience can be found North of Happy Jack. Some people are into that sort of thing. Vedauwoo is unique in there is vast amount of public land that is all connected and access to many problems is trivial. Additionally, the sheer amount of high quality crack problems, as well as face and slab problems, is extremely unique. That's why you meet people from Slovakia at the Nautilus on a Tuesday. Use by all outdoor enthusiasts has increased drastically in the past 10 years. Please prioritize being a good steward of the area. If you are unsure of what this means, educate yourself. The SE Wyoming Climbers Coalition (SEWYCC) is the best resource to get started. Please donate if you can! FIRST ASCENTS My FA is missing!!! We tried really hard to contact people and get all relevant information. We can't get it all. Please contact us to update. Lack of FA information: There are a lot of problems. FA information is hard to get for all problems. In the spirit of the second edition, we decided to drop FA information for most problems. ETHICS Clean your tick marks. Ticking is helpful, but an eyesore. Do not chip holds or glue holds. Do not dry tool problems. Do not drive off of forest service roads. Even if you have 4WD. Even if you see someone else do it. When in doubt walk farther. Dogs: I don't mind dogs but I clean up after my dog and generally have him off leash if no one else is around. But, I carry a leash with me. If your dog doesn't have good recall (or you don't know what that means), or any sort of issue with other dogs or wildlife, then leash it. In some areas expect cattle and/or horses, so plan accordingly. Restroom: Try and find an established restroom. Otherwise, wagbag. Do not dig a hole at your campsite to take a dump in. Speakers: The music you play if you have these is bad. Be respectful of others. Just because you arrived first doesn't mean it is 'your space'. CAMPING Vedauwoo is one of the easiest places to camp at. There are designated sites in Vedauwoo proper, as well as paid camping spots. The designated sites, as of 2023, are first come first serve along Vedauwoo Rd. North of Happy Jack Rd. and the Blair area has less designated camping, for now, but you should only be camping at established areas. That means places where people typically camp. So not driving 300 ft. off the road wherever you want. When to come: I don't know why people climb so much here in the summer. The best months for bouldering here are September to December, then April to early June. If you are local, then great days can be had in January. But otherwise it's not worth the drive. Trust me I have driven here more than you. One of the main issues occuring recently at Vedauwoo is unintentional expansion of pull outs for parking. That means you are driving to a spot you've been psyched on and it looks ful! Oh well I'll just drive on some of that sagebrush nearby and make a comfy spot for me. This is what you shouldn't be doing. Every approach here is trivial walk the extra 30 seconds instead of expanding parking spaces by driving off established roads.
