Stand start on opposing loaf-holds in the shallow dihedral. A tricky start move gets you up onto the slab and around the corner to the left. More low angle climbing between good stances get you to the high summit. Basically a mini free solo.
It’s quite the paradox, noticing the big picture inside one tiny moment. And it’s funny because the moment wasn’t about climbing. It all happened before I left the ground.
This is the third line on the boulder, and every climb has been named by someone else who has an FA of their own on it. A rarity and a fun fact. There are good people out there. Tell them you love them and enjoy these moments while they last.
This is also the most exposed climb I’ve done in the state. When hiking up, and from many of the rope climbs at Careno Crag, it’s pretty obvious why. It faces south into the canyon and overlooks everything and was begging to be climbed, so I hope it doesn’t feel alone anymore now that it’s gotten some love… But I also don’t rope climb, so take that for what it’s worth. There’s probably something far more exposed out there on a rope.
