The Adirondacks are a vast, 6-million-acre protected natural area in northeastern New York, featuring mountains, over 3,000 lakes, and extensive forests, including the "Forever Wild" Forest Preserve that comprises roughly half the Park. Geologically a dome, not a contiguous range, the Adirondacks offer unparalleled year-round bouldering with THOUSANDS of blocks strewn across this vast area - some developed, many yet to be found.

In the Southern and Northern Adirondacks, wet rock is no issue. In the Central Adirondacks, some flakes are more friable after wetness.

HISTORY Bouldering in the Adirondacks has been slow to take hold compared to other regions in the world. People have been bouldering at McKenzie Pond since the 1970's but the Daks still held out as a Trad Climbers Stronghold. It wasn't really until the early 2000's that widespread searching and developing of boulderfields began in earnest. Head to Northern NY and use the Area and Subarea approach instructions to find the crag you're looking for. The Adirondacks has bountiful rock on public land. That being said we do have great boulders on private land that we have lost access to or that should be approached with care. The most notable access issue is Gnarwall. This boulder is on private land and the landowner does not want any climbing on their property.
