Overview: You're here for the highballs, admit it. This is the beauty of Fisk Mill, as well as its tragic flaw. In an area with so many tall lines, one problem stands out among them. Overview: You're here for the highballs, admit it. This is the beauty of Fisk Mill, as well as its tragic flaw. In an area with so many tall lines, one problem stands out among them. Full Circle follows a full-bodied sandstone arete above a broken mixture of talus and water. This pair – the climbing and the landing – feel like they’re trying to single-handedly maintain the cosmic balance. We’re talking life versus death, with security above and nothing but chaos down below. Epic, right? We’re painting you a picture with an emphasis on the extreme. While the majority of problems at the sandstone cliff bands are on the taller side, they are of a more ordinary height. No death-seeking here, just your standard fear of being off the deck. For obvious reasons, these problems don’t get much traffic, leaving many of them in need of a solid brushing. Conditions: Like the other areas in Salt Point, you can climb here year round. Full Circle sits at the water line, so arrive when the tide is on it’s way out. Rules: Open sunrise to sunset. No dogs allowed off the paved roads. No climbing for 3-5 days after rain. No wire brushes. Bathrooms: The Gerstle Cove Campground to the south has the only toilet in Salt Point State Park. Land Manager: Salt Point State Park Parking: Make a left into the parking for Fisk Mill along CA-1, 2.6 miles north of Gerstle Cove and about 22 miles from the intersection of CA-1 and CA-116. At the time of publication, the parking lot is under construction. If you happen to come on a day when it’s closed, park in the small pullout off of CA-1. If the parking lot is open, turn right and park in one of the two lots on the north side. There used to be an $8 fee, but they haven’t been collecting it during construction. Approach: To access the Upper and Lower Cliff Bands, walk to the T intersection. You can see the Lower Cliff Band to the west, but poison oak blocks the most direct path. Instead, walk 100 feet south along the road. Make a right to find a trail that wiggles up the southeast side of the hill. You will end up at the top of the Upper Cliff Band. To get to the Full Circle Boulder, walk north on a trail from the northern parking lot while staying to the right of the hill. Cross a gully and head down to the cove. You can see the overhanging boulder at the far end of the beach. Accessibility: To get to the cliff bands you have to tunnel through an awkward trail up a hill for 200 feet. The Full Circle Boulder sits 1/4 mile to the north through narrow trail, down a steep gully, and then across an open cove.
