Indian Rock is the grandaddy of climbing in the Bay Area. Dick Leonard created the dynamic belay at Indian Rock in the 1930s, and the area was popular with climbing superstars of the 60s and 70s. Legend has it that an inebriated Royal Robbins fell off the top of I-12, and in his drunken state was able to walk away unscathed. In some versions of the story, he even gets back on for the send.
