The Treasury is one of the 'newer' areas to pop up in the greater Stevens Pass region and the concentration of quality problems makes this a must visit area for summertime bouldering. Sitting around 3200 feet of elevation means this area comes into season around mid June and can stay in season till October and sometimes early November. As with all the other Stevens Pass areas the plethora of bugs is the biggest detractor so be prepared to wear long sleeves and long pants, load up on bug spray or find your own method to ignore the swarms. Whether it's your first visit or fiftieth, KAYA makes your The Treasury days smoother, safer, and more dialed. As the season progresses, the bugs die out and late August and September can provide the best conditions of the summer as the sun is still high enough in the sky to burn off any over night condensation and the hordes of mosquitos and biting flies begin to die off. The rock quality in the Treasury is arguably the best in the Stevens Pass area with generally tighter grains more features in the overhangs than the other neighboring areas. Sun and shade can be sought depending on the day or desire of the climber and an intriguing mix of highball and lowball problems can be chosen from. The main era of exploration and cleaning at the Treasury happened between 2017 and early 2020's by a dedicated crew of Everett/Seattle/Tacoma area climbers by the names of: Joe Stangel, Tyler B., Russell Hitch, Dean Baggs & Josh Bennett amongst many others. Thanks guys for all the hard work and for sharing a wonderful area with the Washington climbing community! From Seattle: take State Highway 2 west to Stevens Pass. Just before the crest, turn left onto Tye Road towards the Wellington Trailhead. Park on the left just before the third switchback. The trail enters the ferns on the north side of the road about 50 ft past the parking. The River Boulder will be the first subarea you reach after about 10 minutes of hiking. The 1st Field is ~10 minutes past the River Boulder and the the 2nd Field is ~15-25 minutes. Hike through a fern field, then a short section of forest to a large log over a stream. Take a sharp right at the end of the log and head north through forest for a few minutes. The River Boulder will be on your right. Soon the trail will lead you through the first talus; follow the bark and cairns further along to the second one. Most climbs in the Fields get midday sun but there are definitely pockets of shade from few blocks in the trees. The River Boulder stays shady all day.
