With a wide range of grades and styles, the Southeast Crags is a great place for large groups. The other mega-popular area on the Eastside, Magoo Rock, is an awesome, slightly overhanging, freestanding boulder with a great selection of 5.10 sport routes. Climbers interested in vertical face climbing should also check out Arkansas’ slice of the New River Gorge at the Tool Buttress (Middle East).
Conditions: The rock on the Eastside generally faces west and therefore receives great afternoon sun. There are a few random bits of stone that face other directions, but for the most part the routes here are in the sun around midday. The southern end of the Southeast Crags (the Far East) faces southwest and gets sun a little earlier than the rest of the cliffs. There is not much here in the way of rain protection.
All four sections of the Eastside are most commonly approached from the Trading Post. It is also viable to access them by hiking south on the Cody Monster trail from the Northeast Crags.
