The newest sport zone in the canyon is found on a freestanding boulder known as the Carrion Cube, in an immaculate setting just above one of the ranch’s most unique bouldering areas, the Upper Eden Boulders (see Arkansas Bouldering or HCR book). Depending on the direction of the wind, unlucky approaching climbers may catch a whiff of decomposition. Conditions: Routes 1–5 face west and get nice afternoon sun after the leaves have fallen; the other two face south. Being located so deep in the canyon, the Carrion Cube does have the potential to be more humid than many other crags. Park at the Trading Co. Hike: From the Trading Co., walk downhill (no trail) through the field, aiming for the wooden bridge over the creek. Cross the bridge, and then join the dirt road heading south (do not take one of the bike trails). Continue on this road, staying right at every notable intersection. At 0.3 miles, there’s a nice picnic area on the left; from here, the road heads downhill through the woods about 150 feet onto the next bench below. Continue down the steepening road another 200 feet to where it more or less dead-ends at a huge boulder on the right. This is the Carrion Cube.
