This is a beautiful place to wander around and lose yourself in the rock garden, and it’s probably better that way. From the front gate, drive 2.8 miles to the overlook parking area. From here, you have several options. To access the Icebox Area, walk past the gift shop on its left side, following signs for Rattlesnake Trail. Drop down a small rock staircase and take an immediate right into a corridor (The Nook of Upper Rock City). Continue as the corridor enlarges (The Cranny). At the exit of the corridor, continue walking along the right wall, passing Romulus and Remus Wall and Knife Fink V1 (see Upper Rock City). Scramble over a boulder in the trail, and break right towards two substantial boulders which connect and form overhangs on either side. This is the Icebox Area. To reach the Bread Boulder in the western edge of The Sea, follow directions for Upper Rock City and walk to the Corrosion Block in the Tomb Raider Area. Continue past this boulder as the trail opens up, and look to the right for the long series of angling strata along the traverse of Ball Joint Fractured V4. To access the north end of The Sea, follow a well-beaten trail to the right side of the gift shop. This path meanders downhill and through The Sea. Alternatively, park at the Mushroom Boulder, and walk uphill past it to wander into the northwest passage of The Sea.
