The Calico Basin area generally encompasses everything off of Calico Basin Road including Red Spring, the numerous gullies/canyons north of Red Spring, Kraft and Gateway Canyon. For ease of navigation, Red Spring, Kraft and Gateway Canyon each have their own designated areas.

Kraft refers to the boulders found around the frontside (southern) of Kraft Mountain, thus are accessed from the Kraft parking lot and either going west to West Kraft and Far West Kraft, or north and then east to The Cube, Central Kraft, East Kraft and Monkey Bars. Kraft is the heart of Red Rock bouldering and contains the most densely populated zones with the shortest approaches. There's a mixture of lowballs and highballs and classics ranging from V0-V12. Almost every Red Rock climber spends a decent amount of time in the Kraft zone and for good reason. As popularity continues to grow every season, do follow best practices and stay on designated trails, even if it seems easier to cut across non-designated social paths. The trails are in place to help with restoration and prevent further erosion. Parking can be limited during the busy season so plan accordingly. Kraft is located on the northern end of Red Rock Canyon within the broader Calico Basin area. No fee or reservation needed. From the intersection of Charleston Blvd and the 215, drive 4 miles west onto SR159. Turn right onto Calico Basin Rd, followed by a right onto Calico Dr near the Red Spring parking lot, a left onto Assisi Canyon Ave, and a right on Sandstone Dr. until the Kraft parking lot is on your left. During peak season, Kraft lot can overflow, requiring parking further down on Sandstone Dr., increasing approach time. If parking on Sandstone Dr., be mindful of homes and no trespassing signs. Do not park or drive on Little Springs Rd. There are two general approaches to reach different clusters of Kraft: 1. If you are going to anything on the Central or Eastern side of Kraft, including The Cube Area, Central Kraft, East Kraft, or Monkey Bars exit from the north trail into Kraft towards The Cube. 2. If you are going to anything on the Western side of Kraft, including West and Far West Kraft, exit from the west trail into Kraft towards West Kraft. Pretty much anywhere in Kraft can be reached in the same day as it involves little-to-no uphill scrambling.
