The First Pullout is named accordingly as it is the first parking lot encountered after passing the Red Rock Canyon Visitor Center entrance and driving for about 1 mile. Due to its initial proximity, nice views of Calico and good facilities, it is a very popular spot for tourists.

Climbing-wise, the majority of boulders accessed from the first pullout are found within the wash below, requiring a steep hike to drop in. Some newer boulders are located on the hillside above the wash, more historically popular for sport climbing.

First Pullout is located at the beginning of the Red Rock Canyon 13-mile loop, thus entry fee and reservation are required. From the intersection of Charleston Blvd and the 215, drive 5.4 miles west onto SR159. Turn right into the entry of the loop and be prepared to show evidence of reservation. After payment, drive along the one way loop road for 1.1 miles and park at the first parking lot encountered. After parking exit northeast onto the observation trail. If you cannot or do not wish to enter the loop, it is possible to reach the First Pullout boulders from the Red Spring parking lot in Calico Basin. This requires further hiking, but less driving and is free.
