Mud Springs Canyon is one the least visited canyons for bouldering primarily due to the long approach required and less density of classic climbs. The two most notable climbs that are destination boulders, and generally considered best of their grade, are Skunk Sandwich V6 and Kintsugi V14. Mud Springs Canyon is one the least visited canyons for bouldering primarily due to the long approach required and less density of classic climbs. They are located at the end of different forks of the Mud Springs Wash, thus very far apart from one another. As Mud Springs Canyon is one of the zones that sees less traffic from both climbers and hikers, the trails are fainter, and the cactus more abundant. It is highly recommended to be prepared with adequate approach shoes, and to not bring those that are susceptible to cactus spines such as pets or young children. Mud Springs Canyon is located on the southern end of Red Rock Canyon, approached via SR160 (Blue Diamond Hwy). Historically good car ground clearance has been required, but as of late 2025 a recently flattened dirt road makes the car approach easier. This is potentially subject to change but should not currently require good clearance. No fee or reservation needed. Reach SR160 via either SR159, 15 or 215. At the intersection of SR159 and SR160 the Late Night Trailhead will be visible after driving 4.7 miles west and unmarked dirt road 0.3 miles further. Make the first right onto the unmarked dirt road through a cattleguard. From there two options are available: 1. The southern zones of Mud Springs Canyon can be accessed via a parking lot after about 10 minutes of driving 1.1 miles on the flat dirt road. This is the same parking lot as the Windy Canyon North zones. 2. The northern and western zones of Mud Springs Canyon require a few more turns. Continue down the flat dirt road for 0.8 miles. From there turn right onto another dirt road and continue for 0.6 miles. One final left turn takes you to a faint parking lot after about 0.2 miles.
