Oak Creek Canyon North refers to the largest cluster of boulders that are generally accessed via the (North) Oak Creek Trail 12 miles after entering the loop but can also be accessed via the Middle Oak Creek Trail without entering the loop at all. If accessing via Middle Oak Creek, significantly more hiking is involved.
Regardless of which approach is chosen, Oak Creek Canyon North has three predominant sub areas, Oak Creek Wash, Oak Creek Upper Wash and Oak Creek North Hillside, offering some of the best moderates in Red Rock.
Oak Creek Canyon North can be accessed one of two ways:
OPTION 1
From the intersection of Charleston Blvd and the 215, drive 5.4 miles west onto SR159. Turn right into the entry of the loop and be prepared to show evidence of reservation. After payment, drive along the one-way loop road for 12 miles and turn onto the dirt road indicated as the Oak Creek Canyon Trail. A parking lot will be encountered at the end of the dirt road.
OPTION 2
From the intersection of Charleston Blvd and the 215, drive 8.4 miles west onto SR159 and park at the Middle Oak Creek Trailhead. No fee or reservation required. This option trades driving and payment for an additional 0.7 miles of walking each way.
