DRIVING: From Highway 50 in Meyers, turn south at the intersection with Hwy 88/89. Go 2.4 miles and take a right on Portal Road. At 0.1 miles turn left at the stop sign, onto South Upper Truckee Road. Follow it for 1.6 miles to the parking for the Christmas Valley Trailhead (18E05), 0.4 miles past The Beavers parking.

Follow it for 1.6 miles to the parking for the Christmas Valley Trailhead (18E05), 0.4 miles past The Beavers parking. APPROACH: Hike the Christmas Valley Trail for about half an hour. Two minutes after you cross a small seasonal stream the forest finally opens up. There are some good sized, but scrappy boulders along the trail to your right, and a big fallen log by a sharp left hand hairpin turn. If you go straight here instead of turning left you’ll head straight for the main Mountain Beavers concentration, the Sacred Heart Area.
