This grouping of small areas is named for the hillside it covers, Tahoe Mountain. To avoid confusion, note that this area is spread out above Lake Tahoe Blvd, which runs from east to west. The nearby Tahoe Mountain Road areas are along Tahoe Mountain Road, which runs south to north. There are several sub areas along the south facing hillside, accessed from two different parking spots. During warmer seasons head across the road to the Off Road Area, listed in the Pie Shop section, for more shade. The boulders are a little coarse in general, but the rock is solid where it didn’t get scorched. The highlight boulders of the area are: Divided Sky V4, Golden Fleece V8, The Arena V8, Rolling Thunder V8, and The Projectile V9. From the “Y” drive west on Lake Tahoe Blvd for 1.5 miles and park on the right where the shoulder is wide enough. This parking spot is also 0.5 miles east of Sawmill Road and The Glass Boulder. Walk uphill and slightly right for 200 yds and you should find the first boulders: Perfect Circle and the Red Queen. From here Rolling Thunder is just uphill. The No Name boulders are 200 yds to the west and the Old School Area is 200 yds to the east. In general, the boulders are 200-300 yds from the road and run in a east/west orientation. You will find more detailed approach beta on the following pages. If you have a GPS, use it for your first visit. The hillside is covered in boulders and it’s a little confusing.
