The Voodoo Stones are a very high quality group of boulders located above Fallen Leaf Lake
and below the Voodoo Lounge ice climbing area. The boulders appear to have broken off the enormous Indian Rock looming high above and rolled down to land perfectly on a flat saddle. The setting is stunning. It’s hard to imagine a more perfect spot to hang out and boulder. The area doesn’t hold a lot of boulders, but the ones that are here are definitely quality and the approach is fairly short. If you’re looking for shade, keep in mind that the area gets a lot of sun in summer.

If you’re looking for shade, keep in mind that the area gets a lot of sun in summer. DRIVING: From the “Y” in South Lake Tahoe drive north on Hwy 89 towards Emerald Bay for 3.0 miles, turn left onto Fallen Leaf Road and reset your odometer. Drive 1.9 miles and stay right toward Fallen Leaf Lake. At 4.7 miles go left toward Lilly Lake and when you have gone 5.3 miles total you should be in the Lilly Lake parking lot, park here. APPROACH: Walk back down the road you drove in on for about 100 yds and look for the Tamarack Lake Trailhead. The start of the trail is on the right and it’s unmarked and hard to see. It’s underneath where a small aerial powerline crosses the road. From the trailhead walk on a pretty good, but rocky trail for about 20 minutes and you will arrive at a flat saddle below Indian Rock. The boulders are pretty much touching the trail and you will see them just off to the right at the bottom of a huge talus field. The small boulders you pass in a different talus field about 5-7 minutes up the trail are not the Voodoo Stones, continue on.
