Logistics: The prime season is late Fall, where the days are still long enough, temps finally drop, but before the rains. Winters are mild, with plenty of good temps, but **if it rains, it requires lots of waiting as the sandstone is very weak when wet**, and many of the areas are shaded and dry slowly. Spring is great as well, with water flowing through the canyons and a lushness
History: Santa Barbara has a long history of climbing. From Yvon Chounard setting up shop and starting Patagonia in Ventura, climbing all around the local region (with evidence of early pitons etc still to be found), to the Golden era of bouldering development with the Bob Banks/Steve Edwards crew. Wills Youngs put up many hard lines before moving on to Bishop and beyond. Development still continues to this day. While the main major areas have been poured over, there has been many new 'gems' unearthed, often more singular boulders hidden up side canyons or washes, like the great new Piper Bicycle Michaelson near Tangerine Falls, No Pigs For Rent up Rattlesnake, or Junglebook in Buena Vista.
