Welcome to Vancouver!
Nestled between the vibrant city of Vancouver and the majestic North Shore mountains, the bouldering scene here offers a unique blend of stunning landscapes and diverse climbing opportunities. From Horseshoe Bay to Deep Cove, the granite boulders, cloaked in lush moss and surrounded by ancient forests, create a picturesque playground for climbers of all levels.
The rock formations in this area are primarily composed of the same rugged granite found in Squamish, though the boulders here are often more compact and offer their own charm and character. The natural beauty of the region is truly captivating, with lush greenery, trickling streams, and the distant sounds of nature enhancing your climbing experience. The boulders were largely overlooked until the mid-2000s, when dedicated climbers began to explore and establish routes, leading to a burgeoning community of enthusiasts. Today, climbers of all backgrounds come together to enjoy the thrill of bouldering while appreciating the rich history and natural beauty of the North Shore.
Weather
The climbing season generally runs from April to October, with summer months offering the driest conditions. Thanks to the forest canopy, climbers can enjoy cooler temperatures even on warmer days. However, be prepared for the occasional rain, as the region is known for its moisture, especially in the winter.
Access & Proximity
One of the greatest advantages of bouldering in the North Shore area is its proximity to Vancouver. Just a short drive from the bustling urban center, you can escape into the serene wilderness in no time. This accessibility makes it a popular spot for both locals and visitors looking for a quick outdoor adventure.
Stewardship
As you enjoy the bouldering areas, we encourage you to practice Leave No Trace principles. Respect the environment by staying on established trails, packing out what you pack in, and keeping the areas clean for future climbers. Moss grows back quickly here, often obscuring excellent climbs. We recommend bringing a wire brush to keep the boulders clean and ensure these routes don’t fade into the greenery.
