The climbing history is deep here as well. Spanning several generations starting most prominently with the adventures of Rodney Ley and Steve Allen, next would be the massive wave of development in the 90s to early 2000s that resulted in development or re-writing of the major areas. Tim Wilhelmi, Steve McCorkel, Paul Heyliger, Derek Peavey, Judson Doyle, Sam Shannon, Ken Gibson, Bryan Beavers and many others sunk the bolts that built the most popular route climbing areas in the canyon. The Lower Canyon is considered the stretch of highway between Ted’s Place and Stove Prairie Road; the closest portion of the canyon to Fort Collins. If you only have enough time for a half-day of climbing, this is where you will be.
