The Willow Creek Trail Area is a collection of boulders found off the trail as it winds up through switchbacks and small mesas. The Willow Creek Trail Area is a collection of boulders found off the trail as it winds up through switchbacks and small mesas. Don't expect to find any Willow Trees here, as the trail ends up going South over the Hidden Divide, leaving the state park, on it's way down towards Idyllwild. The Willow Creek Trail is also the other end of the popular Round Valley Loop, but the climbing here ends at the Mesa where the trail flattens. The boulders and problems in this area, are a mixture of past and present development, but little documentation has been done until now. Given the scattered nature of the bouldering here, some hiking is involved, but you will be rewarded with boulders of fine quality and amazing movement.
After filing out a permit at the Ranger Station, take a right on the Round Valley Trail, and hike up towards the Warm Up Boulders. The trail will crest here at the boulders and then start descending. You will notice a fork in the trail. Head left here on the Willow Creek Trail. It will cross the stream before heading uphill. The first boulder is just left of the trail as it starts ascending.
