CLIMBING HISTORY
The true history of the area is very unclear to say the least. Dowdy Lake is one of the most popular spots for fishing, camping, and tourism in all of Red Feather Lakes. So its easy to assume many wandering climbers have visited over the years. But alas, the author was truly unable to lock down any climbing history before the late 90’s. It’s very possible climbers have visited the moderate trad climbs at Columbine Ridge, aka Dowdy Domes over the years. It seems that history has been lost but the author tried his best.
The history we do know starts about late 90s/early 2000s with trad climbers Anthony Mason and Matt Fanning establishing tons of quality routes before both of them moved away. Next in line was the bouldering revolution that started sweeping Red Feather just after then. From 2000-2010 most of the bouldering in this chapter was developed. Climbers like Chuck Fryberger, Jeremy Bisher, Dave Ludders, Jamie Emerson, Brian Capps, Collin Kopitzke, Jason Nadeau, Jacob Ojile, Jason Tarry, Nick Perl, Matt Poiesz, the author and many others have spent time developing the boulders here.
